Crane manufacturer Hiab has announced its latest truck mounted crane, unveiling the new X-HiPro 558.

According to the Cargotec subsidiary, the crane is the strongest crane to be mounted on a three-axle truck and designed for lifting heavy and bulky loads.

Hiab director of heavy cranes Marcel Boxem says the "HIAB X-HiPro 558 provides 20 per cent more lifting power than other cranes of equivalent size."

"With our optimised EP boom system which has longer and lighter individual extensions, the new crane offers optimised outreach, with more net capacity for lifting bulky loads," he says.

The crane maker says it has paid "special attention" to the crane’s capacity-to-weight ratio, in order to maximise the payload and operational efficiency.

Featuring the HiPro remote control system, which Hiab says is "the most advanced… in the industry," the X-HiPro 558 offers "smooth and precise" performance.

When it comes to safety, Hiab senior vice president of loader cranes Joakim Andersson says the company made it its "first priority" in the new crane.

"In big cranes we have taken safety into consideration by offering features like VSLPLUS which uses the position of the stabiliser legs and the total weight of the truck to calculate maximum safe crane capacity, and Boom Deployment Assistant (BDA) which monitors the angle and position of the boom during folding and unfolding," Andersson says.

The new Hiab crane will be exhibited at the IAA event in Hannover, Germany during the week of September 22 – 29.
